Changes

Lots of change going on lately, in personal life and on this blog...
After over a year using the October Special theme for Wordpress (Great theme by Derek Punsalan), I've started changing things around on this blog. The new theme is called Garden 3.0.
The nav menu is sitting over the search form, so guess there's some [...]

Google picks up another major piece of the content generation puzzle: Feedburner

With this acquisition, Google will now practically own the feed generation and management market as Feedburner is the preferred method through which most bloggers (including me) process their feeds. A nice fit when integrated with Google's Webmaster tools and Google Reader apps.
Here's what Tech Crunch has to say about this:
$100 Million Payday For Feedburner - [...]

This blog has just gone thru major surgery!

As the title indicates, this blog has just gone through major surgery - upgrading from Wordpress 2.0.6 to 2.1 (Ella).
This has been quite an effort, partly my fault as I did not use Dreamhost's great One-Click-Install when I first got wordpress working.
I should thank the wordpress community, in particular the great upgrade guide, list of [...]

India: Blocking content at the subdomain level to be possible soon

This is yesterday's news (Tuesday Dec 5,2006). The Economic Times reports that the Department of Telecommunications in India will be putting in place filters at all international bandwidth landing stations to ensure service providers' ability to block content deemed inappropriate without inconveniencing other sites on the same domain.
By implementing this feature, they would avoid [...]

Moving into Wordpress on my own domain

I'm in the process of moving my blog over from Typepad to a Wordpress installation on my own domain.
A Lively Mind - hosted by Dreamhost, I highly recommend them!
While I'm setting things up, please bear with me if you see templates changing, various items appearing and disappearing from the view and default information from the [...]

Blanket blog ban has stopped affecting me directly

Airtel Chennai has finally lifted their blanket block on Typepad.com and Blogspot.com hosted blogs as of about 7 PM Indian Time today, after five days without access.
A few thank you's are in order:1. Thanks to all Indian ISPs for goofing up on the censorship order - without your goof-up, I possibly wouldn't have cared [...]

Looks like the ISP block on blogs in India is beginning to be lifted

Here's a press release from the Department of Telecom (DOT), Government of India:PIB Press Release
The Department of Telecom (DoT) has instructed all the Internet Service
Providers (ISPs) in the country to block only the specified

to all the ISPs has mentioned that it had come to notice [...]

Indian ISPs blocking blogs – today’s update

Two major news channels in India had coverage on the incident:1. NDTV - the coverage was pathetic in that the reporter did not understand the implications of censorship and chose to conclude her report stating that "Is it really possible to censor any content on the internet?" !!! 2. CNN-IBN had excellent coverage with an [...]

More on blogs being blocked by Indian ISPs

Reading up some more, it appears that this is being done under certain censorship clauses of an emergency act.
Here's more from the Indian blogging community:Bloggers Against Censorship by Kiruba Shankar
I love this particular quote by Ravi Kiran, "You know what really scares me? Some bureaucrat learnt that terror groups are using blogs to communicate. Instead [...]

Blogspot & Typepad blogs blocked by all Indian ISPs

Early this morning (7 AM, July 17th) I woke up and checked bloglines to see that Indian bloggers including Dina Mehta were complaining about not being able to reach Blogspot and Typepad hosted blogs. I however was able to get to them! I thought maybe it was an isolated incident and decided to check back [...]

More on the move to the iMac

I'm gonna spend the next few days documenting my move to the iMac from Windows, including the following:
1. backing up data
2. transferring my iTunes Library intact without destroying my precious song ratings, # of played, last played and other meta-data that iTunes stores on my 8600 song, 48 Gig music collection
3. every day programs I [...]

Weird RSS feed problems with Bloglines & GigaOm site

I use Bloglines as my RSS Reader (at work and at home) and noticed that since Om Malik's site GigaOm went through the server upgrade the feed hasn't been updating in Bloglines. After taking into account DNS propagation issues, and on some further investigation, I found that the link to the feed as published by [...]

Spring cleaning in December

Oh, forgot to mention, I am sure the few people (close to zero) visiting this blog noticed that I've changed things around... a good cleanup I hope, in anticipation that 2006 will be a good year for this place.
I am considering removing the Google AdSense section, considering that I doubt I am making any [...]

Michael Hyatt decides to switch!

Working Smart: I Finally Took the Plunge
Looks like Michael Hyatt decided to switch to the Mac. What I find intriguing is that within a few days, he’s found keyboard shortcuts I had no idea about  – and I’ve been using a Powerbook G4 for over 2 years (albeit intermittently over the last 6 months).
I think [...]

New Blog

I've had this TypePad account for about a month now, before that I used a custom MovableType setup running on Windows 2003 Small Business Server. My original plans were to use a blog as a private diary of my thoughts and comment on things I find interesting. After considerable thought, I've decided to also create [...]
