Tamil Nadu state government tries to takeover MSOs

Tamil Nadu Acquisition, Transfer and Taking Over of the Administration of Cable Television Network (Including Multiple Service Optical Transport System) Bill, 2006
So, looks like this is going to be even more fun than I thought... now the Tamil Nadu (a state in the south of India, capital is Chennai/Madras) state government has decided that they will take over the operations of SCV and Hathway cable tv. A bill seeking just this has been tabled in the State Assembly on Saturday.

Interestingly enough, the proposed law says nothing whatsoever about the Local Cable Operators (LCOs), who actually handle the job of wiring up a neighborhood, maintaining service and collecting the rental/service fees. If that whole structure is left intact, and only the MSOs (Multiple Systems Operator) are targeted, then this would appear to be more of a political attack by the current chief minister than an attempt to clean up the market and offer proper service to consumers.
