Wired News has an
article on a new card that would revolutionize the wallet. It can be reprogrammed on-the-fly to any of the cards we would normally carry in our wallet. 10 minutes later, the card is unusable until its returned and refreshed from a hand-held device called the Pocket Vault.
The device works with a range of credit cards, the Mobil Speedpass and other RFID and barcode based customer loyalty programs. Major retailers and credit card companies are in discussions with the firm and apparently support the technology.
The company backing this is called
Chameleon Network. Its interesting to note however that they know this is only a bridge-technology until a replacement comes along in a few years...
